The Edge contains one of the sharpest single-year swings on this site. The 2013
car records 1,763 complaints in its window — a rate roughly 6.3 times the
model’s own median, which places it inside the worst one percent of the 2,142
model years scored here. The 2014 car, mechanically its close relative and
built one year later, records 159, and grades B.
Electrical explains most of the gap. It leads 2011, 2012 and 2013, and on the
2013 car alone it accounts for 662 reports. The subject is the touchscreen
infotainment system: owners describe the head unit freezing, rebooting, going
blank, or losing audio and climate control with it. Ford introduced MyFord
Touch on the 2011 Edge and replaced it with SYNC 3 from the 2016 model year.
The complaint curve tracks that timeline closely.
Body and interior sits second across the same three years, with the powered
tailgate a recurring subject, and the median odometer reading on 2011–2013
reports runs above 40,000 miles — later in life than most infotainment
complaints arrive.
From 2015 the picture changes rather than clears. The second generation moves
engine complaints to the top for three years running, peaking on the 2017 car.
2014 and 2021 are the model’s two quietest years.
